. She made a connection that made him feel she truly cared about his welfare and comfort, considering his past challenges. She would always call him friend, and he did the same.
My husband was admitted to Soin Medical Center on Sunday. Prior to this, he had been hospitalized for two months due to a stroke and numerous complications. We were overawed by the quality of care we received at Soin. The staff was so accommodating, professional, courteous, and timely with his care. A welcome relief after months of hospitalization. While all of the staff at Soin was wonderful, there was one person we felt went above and beyond their responsibilities and made our stay so incredible. Sierra was our nurse for several days during my husband's recovery. She was bright, personable, and supportive as soon as she walked into the room. She had an amazing sense of humor to keep things light when he felt so bad, and it always helped to pick up his mood. She appreciated and understood the difficult health history he had prior to being at Soin and made sure to make him as comfortable as possible. Besides the excellent medical care, she took time to know him as a person, not just a patient. She made a connection that made him feel she truly cared about his welfare and comfort, considering his past challenges. She would always call him friend, and he did the same. A friend is someone you can trust, really listens, understands what you’re feeling, and reacts accordingly…. they both had it right! After days of evaluation, hospital therapists and doctors suggested that a skilled nursing facility might be better than a discharge home. Needless to say, he was disappointed and discouraged once again on his stroke recovery. Sierra took the time to talk to my husband and me to help us find perspective and to see things in a new light. She had a positive mindset and helped us relax and not stress about whatever decision we made. She was so compassionate about his future care and battled for us in our efforts for more inpatient rehabilitation that we so desperately wanted. Sierra definitely deserves recognition for the wonderful job she does, as well as the wonderful person she is.
