Susan has been assisting us for the last couple of months as our unit educator. We have many new graduates who did not get to do clinicals due to the COVID pandemic. I have observed the compassion and caring from Susan being passed on to our new nurses. Susan takes the time to explain, teach, and demonstrate what and how to do it in a caring, considerate manner. She is there at the bedside with the patient teaching good patient care. Many of the patients mention Susan when I stop by to speak with them. One of the many comments was, “The nurse teacher explained so well, I was able to understand what is wrong with me; I was not sure before.”

I see staff flocking to her with questions because she makes them comfortable and happy to help. Susan is an exemplary nurse leader with a passion for nursing, the ability to form personal connections with staff, and excellent role modeling and mentorship skills. She is an asset to our service line and Harbor UCLA Medical Center.
