Upon entering the operating room, Whitney's calm demeanor continued to be a heavy presence for the patient, and she continued educating her as we moved quickly to prep her for surgery.
This nurse was the primary nurse taking care of a laboring patient her entire shift. As soon as the patient's vital signs began to shift and become concerning, This nurse’s attention to detail caught the signs and notified the physician immediately. The patient was beginning to present signs of chorioamnionitis, and the need to deliver this patient was imminent. She alerted our team quickly, and she and the provider moved into action. The RN helped to keep the patient calm during the entire process of prepping her for the OR and an unplanned cesarean section. This nurse's bedside manner with the patient and her spouse was above bar! She took the time to educate the patient on what was happening and why we needed to move forward with delivery. Upon entering the operating room, Whitney's calm demeanor continued to be a heavy presence for the patient, and she continued educating her as we moved quickly to prep her for surgery.

After the delivery of the baby, the patient's vital signs began to deteriorate, and she was found to be experiencing a severe and rapid postpartum hemorrhage. This nurse’s quick action to alert the charge nurse allowed for all of the hands to be in the OR, assisting with stabilizing the patient. She did an amazing job of SBARing each provider and nurse who came into the room; she delegated to her team what she needed. She had a strong focus on everything occurring in the OR. Most importantly, she advocated for a Rapid Response to be called immediately to alert the entire house of our emergent needs. The RN stayed with this patient the entire time, delegated to her team appropriately, and helped to save this patient's life.

She accompanied this patient to interventional radiology to be available for any SBAR on patient history that may be needed as well as to be present for the patient she had grown a relationship with during her labor process! Never did she waver once or freeze in a moment of complete chaos. This nurse’s care for her patients exceeds most nurses! She advocates, cares deeply, listens, and jumps into action for the best interest of her patient, first and foremost, and their baby. Any patient should be so blessed and lucky to have her as a nurse. I am honored to call her my co-worker!
