Her compassion for not only our patients, teammates, and humankind is none I have seen before. She carries out our Core Values and We Care Behaviors both professionally and personally, and it exemplifies her kind heart.
When I think of a DAISY Nurse Leader, I think, Bonita. She is the epitome and definition; as evidence by the following bullet points. Not only all this—she is just joyful and fun too.
Her pioneered and inspired career growth from other nurse leaders. Humble and dedicated to the nursing profession. Been with DaVita for 17 years as a PCT, pushed herself as a single mom through nursing school to LPN, and ultimately a leader (FA, then MCS). Her future is bright and endless. It inspires so many others for growth. She shares her journey as she visits with new teammates.
She teaches her learnings and shares her experiences in her nursing career journey in DDSL, new hire onboarding, and with peers.
She has active lead roles as Treatment lead of a division, and CMS NHSN to mentor FAs and help them succeed with patients and our requirements for quality control and care.
Integrity: she cares that teams understand the “Why” and goes out of her way to carve out time in her busy regional role to spend entire days with teammates to ensure they know our mission and value.
Creatively engages her teams she leads with newsletters to creatively engage them, keep them up to date, and disseminate important information.
Bonita takes her values learned and demonstrated at DaVita into the community. Sitting as a board member and active leader on the National Kidney Foundation- Cincinnati chapter.
Her fundraising and team building efforts has led her to be sought after from other markets to lead their efforts (Louisville KY)
Coordinates donations for raffle baskets that helped raise tens of thousands of dollars over her tenure for patients in need
More info from Bonita’s ROD: Bonita joined Region 3 at the same time I became the ROD. When interviewing for the MCS role, I knew we had to get it right the first time, especially for a region that has been through so much leadership change in the previous years. During and after the interview, I knew Bonita was the missing link for my region. I have witnessed Bonita bridge the gap between MCS and clinical teams with her ability to teach and train, her calming way of correcting a situation, and her ability to turn a negative circumstance into a positive outcome before you are even aware there was an issue. She is thorough in her work, compassionate in her actions, and can make a whole room laugh in a matter of seconds. Her compassion for not only our patients, teammates, and humankind is none I have seen before. She carries out our Core Values and We Care Behaviors both professionally and personally, and it exemplifies her kind heart. Not to mention, she can complete a flow sheet audit before I can even find my highlighter! Yes, it would be an honor for Bonita to be awarded the DAISY Nurse Leader Award, but ultimately, it would be more of an honor for the DAISY Foundation to add Bonita Boyd to their recipient list.
