In addition to her many varied duties in the ICU, Ashtin demonstrated her commitment to exemplary full-patient service in that she took time out of her personal schedule to help organize a birthday recognition event for a patient in her unit who was turning 91 years of age. As they don’t produce many styles of birthday cards for 91-year-olds, she purchased a card for a younger age person, customized it, and got it signed by everyone in and around the unit. Her delivery also came complete with helium-filled mylar birthday balloons.

This event had an amazing positive impact on my friend as he was still beaming about it when I arrived. The card and balloons were the first things he showed me. Ashtin’s efforts to make someone’s special day special were brilliant and brought instant results. Her actions went way beyond what would be expected from a regular healthcare professional. Her compassion and commitment to the full patient experience was amazing. Ashtin should be recognized and rewarded for such continuing exemplary service in the healthcare industry
