Amanda went out of her way to obtain a toenail and shaver kit to treat one of our long-stay patients to spa-like treatment.
A nursing assistant on the 4th floor recently reached out to her leadership team. She wanted everyone to know “Amanda Starnes is in a whole league by herself.” The NA further explained, “Even with minimal staffing and the odds against us, she goes above and beyond for her patients.” Amanda “went out of her way” to obtain a toenail and shaver kit to treat one of our long-stay patients to spa-like treatment. It wasn’t the first time Amanda has gone above and beyond for this particular patient. On his birthday, she decorated his room and gave him a complete makeover (a shave, haircut, and a really good bath).
Amanda does these little extras for other patients, too. Recently, Amanda noticed that two of her patients were having difficulty with their meals because their dentures wouldn’t stay in place. She asked one of her family members to purchase some Fixodent and bring it to her at work, so her patients could eat.
Amanda’s commitment to doing the right thing for patients even when it’s time-consuming or inconvenient is a great example of our Power of One culture. In the words of the nursing assistant who recognized her, “This is what we are here for!!!!”
