I, as a 13-year-old girl, was brought into Helen Devos as a trauma patient from a car accident. When I was in the PICU, Cierra was one of my nurses. Cierra went above and beyond every day, making sure to check in on me every chance she got. Cierra always had a smile in her eyes every time I saw her, and she was always positive and joyful. She was truly a joy to be around. This encouraged me to look at the bright side of things while in a stressful situation and recovery. Cierra truly made a difference in my life and brought peace and positivity to my chaos and anxiety. For example, when I had panic attacks, Cierra held my hand and talked my way through it. She reminded me to breathe and helped me to understand that everything would be okay. I never knew what to expect, as everything medically challenging was new to me. She would sit with me and offer kind words and encouragement, and she was never upset at me for being afraid of little things such as shots or medication. Cierra’s love, positivity, and devotion made such a difference in my time in the hospital. She offered advice and prayers when I needed it most. I continue to look up to her for her kindness and understanding no matter what. Cierra truly was the light in the darkness of my time in the PICU.
