Serpico was not concerned with the clock, instead, his focus was on taking care of the patient and being empathetic to the situation.
Outstanding health care provider! Nurse Serpico is a caring, dedicated, and well-organized professional who ensures the patients and their families understand that he prioritizes their health. Although he had a number of other patients under his care, he made us feel like we were his top priority. He constantly checked on the patient and took the time to describe everything that he was doing. Instead of the family feeling like he was going through a checklist he provided a personal touch to everything.
At the end of Serpico's shift, the patient had soiled his gown which required changing of the garments and extensive cleanup of the patient. We thought he would pass the information to the oncoming Nurse but instead, he completed the turnover process and then came to the room, thoroughly cleaned the patient, and changed the bedding. Throughout the process he understood this was a potentially embarrassing situation for the patient, so he talked him through every part of the process. Again, this occurred after his shift but he came back because he told the patient he would get it done before leaving.
Many of us have occupations where we are ready to leave after a long and difficult shift, however, Serpico was not concerned with the clock, instead, his focus was on taking care of the patient and being empathetic to the situation. Additionally, when he comes into the room his exuberance and enthusiasm are infectious. It is evident that he truly loves his job and appreciates the vital role in ensuring the patient and their family have a quality stay at the hospital. He is worthy of being selected because he is one of the nurses who is in the trenches providing continuous superlative care. He is the epitome of a nurse who provides excellent service to all assigned patients.
