Around the department, Emilio has set the example of what it looks like to be a great imaging nurse. He has been integral in helping to improve workflow and set new standards so that our patients receive the best possible care.
Emilio is an amazing nurse, a natural leader, and a great co-worker. I have had the honor of working with him for about 2 years now and I am constantly blown away by what an exceptional nurse he is! Emilio is extremely hard-working and very knowledgeable, he is a self-starter who is driven by protocol and the desire to continually make himself, our unit, and the hospital better. He consistently helps to build the team up and is great with interdepartmental communication. His bedside manner is exemplary, and he has received many patient compliments with statements like: "Emilio is very attentive, intelligent, and engaging." Emilio is soooo great and the biopsy would not have gone as well without him!: "Emilio is such a nice guy and very sweet!"
Around the department, Emilio has set the example of what it looks like to be a great imaging nurse. He has been integral in helping to improve workflow and set new standards so that our patients receive the best possible care. He initiated the creation of our extensive procedural grid and coagulation protocol that is now used daily. He created multiple checklists for Pre-& Post procedural phone calls as well as a Daily Charge Nurse Tasks. During the update and revision on the imaging nurse's Competency Based Orientation, his input was invaluable and he has subsequently oriented multiple new nurses to the Imaging Team. He has also had many new ER and student nurses shadow him. He is also one of our strongest leaders and has earned the respect of our entire team.
Emilio recently passed his ultrasound-guided IV certification and has been able to help many patients in need when they are very difficult IV starts. When staff is having trouble with a difficult patient or a difficult IV, Emilio is the first one on everyone's mind. Emilio also received BCH's Employee of the Month in May 2020. Literally, while I was working on this nomination, yet another compliment came in for Emilio from one of his fellow BCH nurses. An ICU nurse who works with him regularly said, "Hi! I want to recognize the IR team, including Emilio. I feel like they are always coming to my rescue. Specifically, Thursday. I needed access for a frequent draw patient so we ordered a PICC. The IR team arrived quickly and were not even a little annoyed to take a late in the day PICC add-on. But they did me one better! Instead of a PICC, they popped in an US-guided IV from which I could draw blood. They saved me time, saved the patient an invasive procedure, and saved the hospital supplies and money. Thank goodness for these three amigos! They are the heroes we need at BCH!" Boulder, as a hospital and community, is lucky to have such a great nurse taking care of them!
