Meghan not only provided exceptional care for my mother but really embraced our whole family when she helped us get some much-needed peace and rest.
My mother arrived at Christ Hospital ED with a severe infection and low WBCs from her chemotherapy. The entire Emergency Room department was exceptional, but in particular, Meghan D went above and beyond when taking care of my mom. We have never left her alone in the emergency room, but after several hours, I asked Meghan if I could leave, as I was incredibly exhausted from providing around-the-clock care for her, and I felt, for the first time in a long time, my mom was in good hands.
My young son had surgery earlier that week, and I wanted to go home and check on him. Meghan assured me she would take good care of my mom and promised to call me with any updates. Worried my mom would be upset knowing I left, she comforted me and helped me make the decision to go home. In the early hours of the morning, Meghan called me to let me know that my mom had a great night, and that she was able to calm her when my mom asked where I was.
When I arrived, my mom told me that she really wanted a Sprite, and Meghan went and bought her one with her own money. Meghan also told me that my mom was upset with me for leaving and that she had a nice talk with her and told her I needed to go home and check on my kids and would be right back. Caregiver burnout is a very real thing. Meghan not only provided exceptional care for my mother but really embraced our whole family when she helped us get some much-needed peace and rest.
Meghan embraces Advocate Christ Medical Center's philosophy, mission, and values by treating patients and their families physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Thank you, Meghan! Nurses like you deserve recognition and praise for the work you do!
