Shannon advocated for the baby, spoke with her own family, who were also willing to welcome the baby boy home and advocated to be a foster mom for this baby.
I am nominating Shannon for the DAISY Award for her unmatched, genuine, and most sincere compassion. Shannon took care of a mom who had very severe disabilities and was also non-verbal. The patient did not have a plan for her newborn and would not be accepting custody of this baby. Shannon could not even imagine how this little baby boy would not have a loving home to go to. This is where Shannon stepped in and tried to help with this baby. Shannon advocated for the baby, spoke with her own family, who were also willing to welcome the baby boy home and advocated to be a foster mom for this baby. Shannon partnered with our social work team, the CPS worker, and even reached out to the county herself, just hoping to be a foster mom for the baby boy. Although I wish I could say that it worked out and Shannon was allowed to foster the baby boy, it did not work out that way with the State/County rules. However, Shannon still donated a diaper bag full of sweet necessities for the family who would get the opportunity to care for this child. Shannon, I admire your heart, and although you did not get to take this sweet boy home to foster, I hope this helps you on your journey in the future. You definitely deserve a DAISY Award and so much more.
