Diana Hampton is an Assistant Nurse Manager at the CLC. She has been in this role for almost two years and has grown into a strong, effective leader. Diana is a role model and mentor for the staff at the CLC. Diana has worked at the CLC for nearly 9 years, and many of the staff have witnessed her growth in becoming a Nurse Leader. Diana started at the CLC as an LPN in 2014. She obtained her RN-ADN degree, Masters in Nursing Education, and she is on track to graduate with a DNP degree in November 2023.   She has faced and overcame the challenges of opening the two new Sousley Guardian Cottages at the CLC. She works diligently to make sure staffing needs are covered on all three units. She manages to assign staff to various areas and make changes to accommodate unpredicted staffing issues.  Diana and the CLC team completed the 2023 Ascellon survey in April with no clinical findings within the three locations of the CLC. She was key to this success by continually assisting with staff education, completing environmental rounds, and making corrections on the spot to address any issues.

Diana is knowledgeable of the processes within the CLC and is always looking for ways to make improvements to workflow and care provided to the Veterans. She recently implemented ultrasound-guided IV therapy at the CLC. She worked with the necessary disciplines to obtain an ultrasound-guided machine for the CLC. She provided training to several RNs at the CLC on this equipment, and they are able to utilize it when needs arise. The implementation of this process decreases the number of times the Veteran is stuck with a needle, prevents emergent transfers, and decreases costs to the facility.

Diana and her team at the CLC had 100% participation in the All Employee Survey (AES). This is the first time this has happened at the CLC. She was a key player in encouraging staff participation and educating them on the importance of feedback to the management team through AES results.

Diana is humble and works hard side by side with any staff member on the CLC team when needs arise. She is appreciated, and her dedication, hard work, and caring attitude do not go unnoticed. Diana is passionate about the Veterans and staff at the CLC, and this is evidenced by the actions she shows each day. These are a few examples that make Diana Hampton deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for Quarter 4 2023.
