Back in March, I had a patient's husband show up at the hospital. He was agitated because the nursing home his wife was staying in was not keeping him in the loop of his wife's care. I helped get him the information that he needed and helped him communicate with her doctor. As the husband was about to leave, the husband found out that his wife had been taken to the ER. He was again agitated that he was not being kept in the loop. I walked him over to the ER, where he spoke to his wife's nurse, who happened (thank God) to be Lance. Lance had the husband calm and explained everything that was going on with his wife.

The husband, now calm, called to let his daughter know that her mother was in the ER. When the daughter got to the hospital, she was very frustrated. Again, Lance came out of the ER to speak with both husband and daughter. Magically, the daughter came out calmer than she went in. Care was rendered to the patient, and she was sent back to the nursing home. Without Lance's assistance, I think that situation could have been much worse.

I also think he is a DAISY Nurse just for the sheer number of compliments he gets on Safety Huddle. I have at least five compliments I found, not including mine. Whenever someone gives a compliment to the ER, you can bet Lance was somehow involved. He practices the mission that Horizon Health sets out to accomplish by providing excellent care and promoting wellness throughout our communities. Lance also practices the values that Horizon Health believes in. He is proactive, respectful, shows integrity, dedication, and excellence.
