Staff and providers were at ease, having the confidence that the issues were being taken care of. She's been a reliable and consistent resource for the clinical staff, who feel they can approach her at any time with questions regarding patient care issues that come up.
Mari has been working at UCSF since 2019. Her role as a triage nurse at China Basin Primary Care has been key to the practice's success in addressing both adult patients' and pediatric parents' health concerns in a timely and efficient manner. In her four years in our practice, Mari has imprinted confidence in the providers, staff, and patients with her utmost excellent management of the triage/advice and nursing education she has done in her role.

She started as part of our team during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this hard and confusing time, she took the initiative and proactively dealt with issues that came up in the practice in a calm and reassuring way. Staff and providers were at ease, having the confidence that the issues were being taken care of. She's been a reliable and consistent resource for the clinical staff, who feel they can approach her at any time with questions regarding patient care issues that come up. Mari has gone above and beyond to help the staff with vaccines, medications, and rooming, and her co-workers, as well as providers, have commented about her ethical care and practice.

Mari has an excellent relationship with the team, working directly with providers and the clinical staff, providing support. Many times, the physicians shared how comfortable they feel with Mari's clinical judgement and the great care she provides to the patients. Some of the comments from the physicians are as follows:

-Mari is SO smart, kind, sensible, empathic, warm, and clinically astute. I trust her judgement without question. When she checks in with me, I am always reinforcing her plan, not finding anything that needs to be changed. Our patients and our providers are SO fortunate to have Mari

-I love working with Mari. She's very smart, insightful and patient.

-She treats patients with respect and thoughtfulness. She is a clear communicator with patients, families, and her team.

-She is a great collaborator and resource for me and the nursing team. Her clinical knowledge is strong. She practices safe patient care. She has very real-time follow through with patients and the team.

-In her work as a triage nurse, she has consistently offered very solid advice for our adult and
pediatric populations. I trust her in every way when consulting on my patients.

Parents have also expressed their appreciation for Mari's efforts to finding appointments for their children within our pediatric urgent care and has gone above and beyond getting appointments in outside urgent care sites in times of limited access.

In addition, she has taken it upon herself to lead side projects that further the goals of the clinic, improve workflows, and promote quality. She developed standard work around patients requesting travel advice, including required vaccinations. She developed a questionnaire to solicit all the necessary clinical information to help determine what vaccines or prophylaxis would be required or recommended for the travel destinations planned. She tested the questionnaire on patients using a PDSA trial and repeatedly asked providers for their feedback. It has since streamlined travel advice encounters for the clinic.

Mari also revised and enhanced our current rapid response team program for medical emergencies which included pre and post-tests, training, and mock training with all staff.

She has also worked on our COVID testing for travels, treatment, and workflows, and has been involved with others to develop and implement our co-visits.

As evidenced in the providers' comments about Mari, she has demonstrated at different levels and in different ways her impact to our patients, providers, and practice overall. Providers and I strongly agree that Marialma deserves this recognition.
