I was taken into the chemo ward and introduced to Nurse Sandra. She immediately smiled and welcomed me. She did that with sincerity and made me feel like a member of the family.
Recently diagnosed with lung cancer which in itself it is a significant emotional event, I was to begin chemo. Naturally, I had a thousand questions and concerns. I was taken into the chemo ward and introduced to Nurse Sandra. She immediately smiled and welcomed me. She did that with sincerity and made me feel like a member of the family. I was more than just a patient. I was her patient.

I asked if I could express some concerns/ fears. She said absolutely. She listened and addressed every single one in a clear and concise manner. She addressed my fears in a very compassionate yet professional way. She clearly understood exactly where I was coming from. She addressed me respectfully and assured me she would be with me every step of the way. It was the way she said it, not just the words. She also said if I had any questions or needs she would be there for me. She then began explaining the process, organizing products, and explaining the steps along with a hundred other things.

She checked and double-checked her work. She explained each process. All while maintaining that friendly yet professional rapport. She continually checked on me. Nurse Sandra did not just meet standards, she went above and beyond to exceed them. I have had many interactions with healthcare providers in my life and Nurse Sandra is the consummate professional. Everyone in there was very friendly, kind, and professional, but Nurse Sandra was a shining star. Not all angels have wings, but they will. Thank you Nurse Sandra for all that you are and do in your field.
