Over the course of the day, she began to open up to Alli and express her very real concerns for her own mental health.
All nurses provide care, but some nurses have a unique way of putting their patients at ease. Alli Lerario is one of these nurses. Alli has an exceptional ability to connect with her patients, making them feel comfortable and gaining their trust. Never was this more evident than when Alli took care of a mother who had just given birth to her second child. This mother had a history of postpartum depression with her first child. As the day progressed, the patient began to recognize that she was experiencing the same signs of postpartum depression that she had experienced in the past. Because of Alli’s warm and caring demeanor, the patient felt comfortable and confident that she was in good hands. Over the course of the day, she began to open up to Alli and express her very real concerns for her own mental health.
The patient wrote, “Alli ensured I had everything that I needed. She also went over and above to ensure that I got some help when I was feeling depressed – especially post-partum. She took time to sit down and talk with me. I really appreciate it! I am so grateful!”
Despite a busy shift, Alli recognized that this patient needed her complete attention. She took her time, sat down with the patient, listened, and validated her concerns. Without hesitation, Alli escalated her concerns to the medical team and the patient was able to be discharged the next day with the appropriate support and care she needed. Alli’s ability to connect with her patients, gain their trust, and provide exceptional, compassionate care is one of the things that make her an Extraordinary Nurse and so deserving of the DAISY Award.
