Julie connected on a level with my Father-in-law that made him feel wanted and extra special.
Julie took extraordinary care of my Father-In-Law, P, while he was admitted to DOU in April. P raved about her attentive care and "being the best nurse." P was very touched when Julie switched to a DOU assignment to take care of him specifically. P has been in and out of the KP Irvine Hospital over the past three years and is slowly declining due to liver disease. Very recently, "home" has taken on a new definition. P had a fall in February that resulted in a hip fracture. Since then, he has not returned home. He took a trip to a SNF, then back to KP Irvine, then to a board & care home, and back to KP Irvine again. He is now awaiting discharge back to the board & care home. This has been a very difficult time for our family, but especially for P. He is brokenhearted about the new reality of home no longer being the house he considers home, the home he worked hard to purchase for his family. P is extremely lonely, living without family under the same roof as he is. He has been struggling with his loss of independence and feeling as though he is unwanted. Julie connected on a level with my Father-in-law that made him feel wanted and extra special. This week, I gave P a small bag of pins to hand out to his care team. Julie had already begun her vacation and would not be returning before his discharge. However, P set aside a pin, just for Julie, and placed it in his wallet so that he could find a way to give it to her after she returns from vacation. To say Julie exemplifies extraordinary compassion is an understatement. Thank you, Julie!
