Recently, we had an 83-year-old female patient admitted for Congestive Heart Failure on Gagnon A. Since our shift started, we noticed the patient was anxious. Part of the anxious feeling could have been attributed to her language barrier. The patient’s husband was granted permission to arrive earlier than visiting hours to help us communicate with his wife. However, we picked up that the husband was hard of hearing. Instead of becoming dismissive of the issues with communication on important health care between patient and family, Lauren generously made time to sit with both our patient and her husband. Every time she stepped foot in the patient’s room, she thoroughly explained everything that she would be doing to care for her. Our patient cried tears of immense gratitude and satisfaction for the care Lauren provided. She was so grateful for Lauren giving the extra time to make sure she and her husband fully understood her plan of care. Lauren is devoted to each of her patients, and this is just one of many examples of Lauren going above and beyond to provide extraordinary care. I am so honored to work alongside her and learn from her.
