We shared our concern with Karen. Karen listened and heard us as family members and sent a message to the doctor to return and check in on my dad.
My father was admitted for internal bleeding. Karen introduced herself and took the time to fill us in with our questions about his blood work. We are not in the medical field and needed guidance. Throughout the weekend, we were greeted warmly by Karen as his family. When my sister-in-law came in with his grandchildren, Karen greeted them and answered questions again. Making us all feel like we were not “bothering or hindering” her in any way. Karen informed us each time she needed to assist another patient if in a room with us, assuring she would return.
Sunday mid-morning, we came in after calling my dad as we could hear he was muffled when speaking on the phone. We shared our concern with Karen. Karen listened and heard us as family members and sent a message to the doctor to return and check in on my dad. She was kind and reassuring that we were seeing a change in his behavior and motor skills as we saw upon this visit. The doctor explained that my dad was experiencing delirium from being sedated and from being in the hospital. When we asked Karen to explain for a better understanding so I could share with our family, Karen taught us about what this is better than WebMD explained it online.
Karen called me today as I was on my way to stay with my dad; she informed me of his procedure time so I could also share it with our family. Her patience, passion for her job, and willingness are outstanding!! She is a true example of grace and what every nurse and person should pursue to achieve. We cannot express our true appreciation for Karen and her team.
