Betty is a pretty amazing provider and never ceases to surprise me with her thoughtfulness and compassion, not only for the Veterans, but for the staff she works and collaborates with. She is an NP for GB VA HCC. There is no one situation, so I will give a couple of times I saw her display integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence in her everyday work.

A colleague was taking off for a lumpectomy, and she made a point to touch base and give her support.

One day, I was meeting with a Veteran following her appointment. She made a seamless transition to me by reaching out when she was done. She provided us both with what he needed to do following our appointment.

I was meeting with a Veteran, and she personally picked up his prescription and brought it to the office [where] I was meeting with the Veteran. The Veteran was so very appreciative and surprised. He thought he would need to come the next day because the pharmacy would have been closed by the end of our appointment.

I had to leave on time for a personal appointment and she took this into consideration and let me see the Veteran and just provided me and the Veteran what she planned to do on behalf of the Veteran so the appointment could end on time.

On more than one occasion, I have seen her taking the time to walk a Veteran not only out of the exam room but down the hall and to the healthcare center's entrance.

She never “balks” when the social worker asks if she deems something is appropriate. She will gently share why it would not be realistic or agree and asks how she can help the Veteran. She always comes and leaves with a pleasant hello, no matter what happens in her day.
