It is difficult to capture in mere words the exceptional qualities and contributions of Mary Workman to the Trauma Intermediate Care Unit. Mary's is a fireball of energy, a beacon of unwavering dedication, and an embodiment of passion for nursing. Her journey has been driven by an unquenchable desire to not only excel herself but to uplift those who surround her.

Mary's compassion for patients transcends ordinary care. She ensures that every task is completed to its fullest extent and goes the extra mile, offering all her expertise and heart. One remarkable testament to her dedication is the development of a system for assessing patients upon arrival, ensuring the utmost skin integrity, and the provision of preventive measures, all for the betterment of the organization and its patients. Mary's innovative thinking extends to the creation of “smart phrases" for documentation, aiding nurses in showcasing the appropriate care patients receive. When faced with challenges, she is relentless in her pursuit of solutions, readily seeking out knowledge and then sharing it with her colleagues, helping them achieve better outcomes.

Mary is not content with just her role; she actively participates in multiple committees, including her role as Chairperson for Nursing Practice and her invaluable contributions to Share Governance as a resource. Her pursuit of excellence knows no bounds, and it is hard not to be inspired by the lengths to which she is willing to go to achieve the best for both patients and the organization.

Over the past year, Mary's achievements and initiatives have been nothing short of remarkable. She led the Mepilex project, significantly reducing the incidence of Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injuries (HAPIs) on the unit. She is a driving force in shared governance, consistently pushing for improvements and innovation. Her dedication extends beyond the unit as she represented us at the RBC conference, bringing back fresh and innovative ideas. Mary is also actively involved in Nursing Congress and tirelessly mentors new Clinical Leaders and charge nurses.

Mary's leadership extends to developing other unit initiatives, including thorough chart audits, and her commitment to excellence is further exemplified by her decision to switch to day shift, allowing her to be even more deeply involved in the daily operations. She dedicates hours decorating the unit for various occasions, instilling a sense of joy and motivation among the team with her holiday decorations and inspirational quotes. Furthermore, Mary is working towards completing her MSN, showcasing her unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth.
