You could really tell she cared about her patients and we witnessed this day after day of moving him, cleaning him, trying different things to get his fever down, and advocating heavily for him and his care with his physicians.
My son B, was admitted to the SICU after an unfortunate lung/fluid experience following a routine surgery. Brittney was his nurse from 7am-7pm 3 days in a row, then off for a day, and back for 2 more days. Our entire family was always glad when we saw she was his nurse for the day. Brittney showed so much compassion for his situation, and ours, her clinical expertise was totally awesome as she tried so many different things to help get our son ready to be moved off of the heavy ventilator setting and out of the medically induced coma. She explained every move she made to us in terms that we could understand, and it was very obvious that she was well respected by her peers on the unit. The SICU possesses a real team atmosphere, and I probably could have nominated most of her care team for this award, but Brittney was with him the most while we were there, so she really stood out to us. You could really tell she cared about her patients and we witnessed this day after day of moving him, cleaning him, trying different things to get his fever down, and advocating heavily for him and his care with his physicians. Brittney was so involved in every move, she came into the room when the physicians were rounding or even on a regular visit and always asked if we understood what they were saying and explained if necessary. She made us feel welcomed and even embarked on some playful banter with our other son, who is a nurse at St. V’s in Toledo. B’s mom and I both worked in hospitals, me for 21 years, and she for over 40 years, and I must say that knowing all the people we know, Brittney made a lasting impression on us and our son. When she returned back to work after a few days, B had been transferred to a stepdown unit, and she took 5 minutes out of her day to go and say hello to him. It was an amazing stay, and I believe that his miraculous turn of events leading to his, what appears to be very positive outcome, has a lot to do with the knowledge, experience, and just overall being a special nurse named Brittney.

Note: This is Brittney's 2nd DAISY Award!
