This three-year-old patient has spent his entire life here in the Special Care unit, he is on palliative care. His parents are rarely able to visit due to work and other obligations.
Today, they decided to try to get him into the Peds Pavilion, however, there was a need for the pavilion to be sure that he was able to be transported. It is up to the nurse to prove that this can be done, so his nurses quickly put together an idea to take him outside to show that he indeed could be transferred. Nurse Leader Carmelle said, “There is a lot to make this happen, Respiratory will have to be involved and take this trip with us with all his tubes, we will need to be careful.” His nurse Alexa said, “We decided to take him outside for a walk. This will be his first taste of what weather feels like because he has never been outdoors. He has never seen the sun in his life, and we wanted to make this special.” Alexa Wolber, Carmelle Daniel, and Megan McKinley then decided to go above just rolling him outside, instead they wanted it to be a nice piece of life journey for him. “Let’s make it as beach-themed as possible for him.” A couple of hours later, they were off and he was able to experience the Florida Sunshine!"
