Every day I saw her, I knew I had someone who really cared and was looking out for me.
Amanda took the most extraordinary initiative to make sure I understood what was going on and why it was happening. She was like a daughter to me and was the gentlest whenever she could be but told me when she was gonna hurt me and why...lol. She went out of her way to do things beyond the ordinary for extra little conveniences for me and accommodations. Her support staff noticed how she looked after me and genuinely cared about me and took her lead in doing his part to go out of his way above and beyond the scope of his "duties" to look after me when she was away or busy with others.

I was admitted to the hospital because I had a blood sugar level of 598, and I did not know I was a diabetic. While I was dealing with being a 3c diabetic, I was also waiting on test results to see if I had pancreatic cancer. It was a really tough time for me. Amanda could tell I was having a hard time. To top it all off, I HATE needles ALOT, and now I was getting jabbed every few hours for blood and insulin. I told Amanda that I was afraid of needles, and she tailored her approach to me. She was gentle and tried to combine jabs to minimize the amount. We called them two-fers. She was my nurse for the five days I was hospitalized. Every day I saw her, I knew I had someone who really cared and was looking out for me. There were a few times she had to advocate for me because the many different doctors were giving different orders, but she would get them straightened out. Since I was new to being a diabetic, she helped me understand what it all meant and gave a lot of guidance on what foods to eat and stay away from. She helped build my courage up to be able to stab myself, no small feat. I believe Amanda embodies what every patient longs for when they are in the hospital, and she really helped me through a turning point in my life.

Of all the nurses we had in our medical journey, Amanda listened to our story and was not judgmental. She quickly responded to our needs and advocated for my wife when she was at her most vulnerable. Amanda managed every facet of my wife's care, especially upon discharge, as we faced the realization of tackling this medical issue outside of the hospital. She made sure we had all the info for our prescribed medication and even got us out in time for a follow-up appointment with a specialist that evening.
