I was so pleased to nominate Cheryl, a Registered Nurse who works on the 4th Floor Orthopedic Trauma floor. Cheryl was part of the great team who cared for my mother (age 83), after her orthopedic surgery. Mom spent 10 days after her surgery in the care of Cheryl and the other nurses. Though the entire team of RNs was great, Cheryl really stood out to me, both due to her outstanding nursing skills and expertise and her kindness in caring for my mother.

My mother wasn’t an ‘easy patient’ due to her advanced dementia and I know she was a challenge for the already busy nursing staff. Cheryl was able to really relate to Mom and help ease her fears as best as anyone could. Mom couldn’t remember Cheryl’s name, but she referred to her as ‘Mrs. Blue” due to her bright blue scrub top. Mom really connected with her there and so did I as the concerned daughter at such a difficult time. Despite her many patients to care for and all of her work, she was always so much comfort to me with a kind smile and words of encouragement. Again, Cheryl is deserving of this DAISY Award. I do not know her last name but I will remember her forever.
