Frank introduced himself as my nurse navigator during my first chemotherapy infusion. He described his role, and I very much appreciated the time he took to answer not only my questions but also my daughter’s questions. His knowledge, professionalism and his easy manner did much to lower my level of anxiety during that first treatment visit. Frank has continued to check in with me at each infusion, and I have very much appreciated his compassion and kindness. ​

I would like to share two specific examples of how Frank’s interventions made a significant difference in my care.​

I required oxygen after lung surgery and was essentially home-bound because I was unable to secure a portable O2 concentrator (POC). Despite the fact that the O2 supplier offered home evaluations (to determine need) I was told I had to come to their office in Columbus or Indianapolis for the evaluation. At that time I was not able to do that, so I asked Frank to intervene. That very day I received a call from the O2 supplier to schedule a home evaluation. The RT came to my home, assessed my response to the POC, and approved it the equipment. This significantly improved my quality of life, allowing me to go to my grandkids’ games and our family lake vacation. ​

Frank also intervened to secure my cardiac monitor. My physician ordered an event monitor after two episodes of chest pain and tachycardia. Three weeks later I had another episode. This time with bradycardia initially then tachycardia. I was never contacted to schedule a cardiac consult for a monitor. So, I contacted Frank to intervene. That same day I received a call from cardiology and was given an appointment to be seen the next morning. ​
