Emily is the definition of an expert resource where she assesses when an opportunity is best for learning through watching and discussion versus hands-on practice or alternative methods.

Emily is the most kind and compassionate preceptor we have. Her patience is unrivaled, and she hits the ground running from day one. For example, with her most recent nursing student paired with her, the very first day she pulled the student into an empty room and spent time explaining to her how the day would go, and gave her several opportunities to practice her IV insertion skills and then took her right out to the floor and gave her the opportunity to practice those skills in real life. She builds deep relationships with them where they flourish and are able to be engaged in their learning experience. They trust her and feel comfortable speaking up about how they feel and what they would like to see/do, and then she follows through on arranging those assignments to allow for their goals to be met.

She is an incredibly skilled nurse and allows them the opportunity to lead whatever care/interactions they want, knowing that she is right there beside them and will support them through the whole process. She is so kind and committed to ensuring they have a positive experience that she even bakes them special treats for their final day to let them know we were glad to be part of their story and wish them all the success in the future. She is the definition of an expert resource where she assesses when an opportunity is best for learning through watching and discussion versus hands-on practice or alternative methods.

She is certified and a true leader in her specialty. She smoothly handles the transitions from patient to patient, and task to task amongst her additional duties like departmental checks and committee work. She demonstrates collaboration amongst her fellow nursing peers, aides, and physicians as needed, teaching her charges the art of collaboration and professional relationships. She will spend time with them to sit and think through the "whys" behind what they are doing and connect the gaps in their knowledge to improve their practice. These students leave here with not only increased confidence in their knowledge and skills but also with a mentor and a positive view of the nursing profession and those who work in it.
