This situation would have had a much different outcome had Jaselyn not noticed the subtle changes in the baby's color.

Jasleyn's outstanding care and intuitiveness saved a baby's life. This baby was a normal, healthy newborn from an uncomplicated birth. She noted a murmur on assessment and contacted the baby’s pediatrician to get an echocardiogram ordered. She also did a CCHD screen early, at 14hrs of life, and the results were passing. Throughout the day, she noticed changes in the baby's color and overall status. She repeated the CCHD, and the results were very different from earlier and the baby failed the test. She called the physician back to state her concerns, and they started trying to get the echo results. While waiting, the baby was taken to the NICU. After the baby was admitted to the NICU, the echo results came back and the baby was transferred to Dallas. If she hadn't noticed the changes and been doing CCHDs earlier than normal, it may not have been caught until the 24hr screen and the baby could have been much worse off given how quickly he had decompensated already at even 20 hours of life. This situation would have had a much different outcome had she not noticed the subtle changes in the baby's color. Had it not been for the quick thinking of this nurse, this baby wouldn't have made it much longer.
