Melissa is my wife, so perhaps I may be a little biased. But the excellence she exudes as a nurse is nothing short of amazing. She is highly respected among her peers for being competent, efficient, and a team player. During COVID she brought her own sewing machine into work and designed/constructed PPE from other OR materials to try and keep patients and her co-workers from being infected. A couple weeks ago Melissa was driving home and witnessed a frantic woman trying to tend to someone who was having trouble breathing on the side of the road. Melissa immediately recognized the severity of the situation and pulled over to help. When she came upon the person, they became unresponsive. She checked the person's pulse and feeling nothing, began CPR. She did CPR until the EMS showed up, told the personnel the information she knew, and finished driving home. She thought about that person often for the next few days and I know she lost sleep over the event, wondering what the outcome for the patient was. This is a perfect example of her character and humble nature. She did something extraordinary without any hesitation but filled with compassion. She is the personification of a model nurse who we should all strive to emulate.
