Sure enough, the patient’s wallet and other items were there, but it was because of Misty’s persistence that the items were located and subsequently returned to the patient.
I have had the pleasure of working with Misty in BHU for over three years and we have worked together in the home health setting prior to this. Back in 2017, I remember Misty saying to me that she really wanted to be a psychiatric nurse. A year or so later, her dream came true.

Mental health nursing is definitely Misty’s calling. She is calm, caring, and compassionate; truly engages with and gives each patient her full attention. She advocates for her patient patients, both medically and physically. Just last week, she made multiple calls to another unit in our hospital to try to retrieve a patient’s private property that was not sent with her at the time of her transfer to our unit. Misty stayed on top of it. She contacted that unit’s charge nurse and spoke to her and the house supervisor multiple times to be told that there were no belongings left there on the unit. Misty then called back again and asked if someone would at least go and check the nightstand table in the room the patient had occupied, as the patient said that was where they had been. Sure enough, the patient’s wallet and other items were there, but it was because of Misty’s persistence that the items were located and subsequently returned to the patient.

Misty is a phenomenal nurse in the mental health setting, but her home health experience with wounds, knowledge of diseases, and comorbidities makes Misty the type of nurse that sees the “whole picture”. She is the nurse who scrutinizes vital signs, orders, medications, intake/output, hygiene, and mobility issues and identifies patients who are at risk for falls. Misty is a meticulous charge nurse, and you can be assured that by the end of the shift every “I” will be dotted, and every “t” will be crossed. She is always willing to lend a hand to help her fellow teammates.

Just this past Sunday, she stayed over her shift to help me document care events. I can honestly say, and I have heard other nurses on our unit agree with me: with Misty’s attention to detail as well as her exceptional nursing care in general, Misty is the nurse, or the type of nurse, that we all would want to have for ourselves or our family members. You just don’t get any better than Misty!
