Hailey was covering another nurse as they went on lunch and noticed some subtle neurological changes in one of the patients.

As the NPD Practitioner for CBDC Outpatient I have been doing a lot of rounding with staff nurses in past few weeks. One of the questions that we ask is if there is anyone they would like to recognize for the work that they do, and why? I have been so impressed that the majority of the nurses do not hesitate to recognize Hailey Fantozzi for the fantastic work that she does. It is amazing to see amount of recognition she gets from her peers in this format, but it is not surprising.

Hailey consistently goes above and beyond to provide outstanding care to patients and families, support our nurses while they navigate challenging clinical situations, all the while juggling her own tasks as charge nurse. She is also constantly signing up for extra projects to improve our unit, and was extremely involved in our move to the new building, and was a big part of why it went as smoothly as it did.

I witnessed Hailey exemplify nursing excellence as the clinical charge nurse just last week. It was a very busy day in clinic. She was covering another nurse as they went on lunch and noticed some subtle neurological changes in one of the patients. She appropriately escalated her concerns, remained with the patient and provided excellent, thorough nursing care until the primary nurse returned and the patient could be transferred to critical care. Throughout the situation she remained very calm and was communicating clearly and effectively with the family in a way that they felt supported and assured that their child was receiving the care they needed. She was also taking the time to debrief and explain the situation to a nursing student. All the while, Hailey maintained her awareness of the remainder of unit to ensure things were running smoothly in the clinic outside of this situation.

I think this situation demonstrates how Hailey embodies the Seattle Children's values of excellence (noticing subtle but acute changes in patient condition and providing high quality nursing care), collaboration (communicating and working with the team to ensure patient was safely transferred to acute care, ensuring all nurses got appropriate breaks, making the most of the learning opportunity for the student), Compassion (caring and communicating with the family in a way that they felt involved, informed, and were able to remain calm).

This is only one example of how great of a nurse Hailey is, and she deserves recognition beyond that which she receives from her peers in a private forum. She is truly a shining star for our organization, and I am so grateful to be on a team with her.
