Kash was so great with my son because they could connect about movies and other things that were not medically related. This small gesture to make my son feel like himself while being hospitalized meant so much to him.
My son was staying in the inpatient pediatric neurology and cardiology wing at New York-Presbyterian's Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. My son had been brought to the Emergency Room after having a seizure. After spending the night in the ER and having an MRI, he was admitted to the neurology unit to have an extended video EEG. He was hospitalized for 4 days and 3 nights. Throughout his time in the hospital, we had the best imaginable care from our nurse Kash Calderon. Kash treated my 12 year old son with such humanity, making him feel comfortable and talking with him about his interests. Kash was so great with my son because they could connect about movies and other things that were not medically related. This small gesture to make my son feel like himself while being hospitalized meant so much to him.

In addition, Kash was extremely intuitive and had superb attention to detail when caring for my son. We knew that his physical health, in addition to his emotional health, was being attended to by a professional who was highly skilled. My son has a disability that affects one side of his body, and Kash made adjustments in how he performed routine tests. He did not treat my son any differently because one side of his body works a little differently than the other.

Spending four days in a hospital with a scary new diagnosis of epilepsy is a challenging and emotionally difficult situation, but with Kash, we knew we were in the best hands, and he brought a bit of lightness and incredible kindness to our family in this time. We will forever be grateful.
