Being a nurse for over 30 years never prepares you for being on the other side of healthcare, especially as a mom. Recently, I brought my son to one of the community hospitals for some concerning neuro symptoms. The radiologist reported suspicious lesions on his brain, and he was transferred to the ED at Saint Luke's Hospital for possible admission. In particular, Rachel was phenomenal!!! I actually had the privilege of mentoring her at Saint Luke's South as a new graduate. I can't tell you how rewarding it was to watch a nurse whom I had mentored care for my son with such care and compassion.

She not only provided the right clinical care but also kept us updated around the clock, paying attention to every detail. The composure, calmness, confidence, and compassion she showed my son as she took care of him in uneasy and uncertain circumstances is why I am nominating her for the DAISY Award.
