She provided a shoulder to cry on or an ear to vent our emotions and worries. It was a very rough couple of weeks, but even after getting life-flighted to a higher care facility, Lauren still made sure to check in with me to make sure I was doing okay and if we needed anything.
I had twins, and two days later, we were supposed to be going home with our sweet new babies, but unfortunately, I started crashing and took a turn for the worse unexpectedly and had to be stabilized and put in ICU. Lauren was the first nurse I had in the ICU on night shift after I had crashed that day. We got to spend some time together as I was getting blood transfusions. She showed me nothing but love and support. She joked with my husband and me and truly made a terrible day a little brighter. I was two days postpartum, so my emotions were crazy, and my babies got to go home without me that day. Lauren, even if she wasn't my nurse and I needed something, was right by my side and advocating for me as I couldn't at some points of my hospital stay due to pulmonary edema and inability to breathe very well.
There was one night, in particular, I was having a VERY bad night, and a lot was happening all at once (multiple blood draws, X-rays, being put on CPAP, over 10 people in the room, rapidly getting worse), and all I asked for was Lauren. She came to see me right away as she was already working that night as house supervisor and helped calm me down as I was being put on CPAP and told it looked like I was in heart failure. She helped validate all of my concerns and worries, as well as help with my care in any way she could. I truly don't think I would be here without the care she provided me and helping/advocating for me in many terrifying situations not only myself but my husband and family had to go through.
She not only helped me, but she helped my husband navigate the new dad, but a very sick mom journey no one should ever have to go through. She provided a shoulder to cry on or an ear to vent our emotions and worries. She truly stood out and made such a big difference in our lives, and we could never repay her for everything she did for my family and me. She was definitely the light in such a dark and scary time!
