Maurice was amazing dealing with my mother, who was in tremendous pain from hip surgery. It didn't make her easy to deal with. She is very reticent with people she doesn't know, but Maurice was able to establish trust with her, and she would cooperate with anything he asked her to do. I spent the nights w/her at Annie Penn, and Maurice was skilled, competent, gentle, and patient. I observed an incident involving my mom's IV, not anything bad, but Maurice was charting at the computer and another staff member was at the IV. He was just aware of everything going on in the room and noticed a small adjustment that needed to be made at the IV pole and somehow delivered that information to the other staff person without being or appearing "bossy." His sense of humor was great. He came in for his night shift and that was exactly when my mom decided she needed to go #2. It was right at shift change when passing off patients. I told him I was so sorry to hit him with the bedpan task the moment he walked in the door. I was nervous and upset because I didn't know she was going to go to the bathroom if she couldn't move. I was nervous to interrupt him during report but more nervous that he'd be facing a huge mess if I didn't. He totally decompressed the situation by his facial expressions, which said no big deal, and his response, "I ain't afraid of no poop!" (Like Ghostbusters)
