I’ve long since believed the nursing staff you have is the best in both DE and Maryland. Paige proved this without a shadow of a doubt.
Let me first state that Paige reinforced a notion that I’ve had for over the nearly two decades I was seen within the emergency room: That your staff is amazing but shined just that much more. I’ve never nominated anyone for a DAISY Award. So, I hope this conveys how amazing she was. She is the first person in 20 years I feel deserves praise beyond what I could provide with simple gratitude and a “ thank you”.
I was in the emergency room this morning for uncontrolled pain (I have stones in both kidneys and am scheduled for a lithotripsy.) It is safe to say my pain level was at a ten. We were placed in the only available room, which was an isolation room. One of the side rooms in the ED that’s out of the way and doesn’t have a TV. Within minutes of her entering the room, she had already conversed with me and my significant other with enough positive energy to make me smile and laugh. Something I’m generally incapable of while in such pain. She made sure we were entirely taken care of, checking in on us between her duties as the Nurse. Going so far as to exchange stories about silly, but interesting things. Like asking her if she has a ghost story since most people in the hospital have at least one.
Beyond going above and beyond to keep me distracted from the pain and lack of entertainment - as again, there was no television - she paid my fiancée a great deal of attention. It meant the world to me that she included my future wife in every aspect of our conversations. She made sure I was always tended to. Within no more than three minutes, if that, she would enter my room with the medication ordered by Dr. B (who I should mention is a great doctor). She would often come in to make sure my pain was tolerable even when going to another patient’s room. She took those few seconds to ensure I was doing okay and if I needed anything.
I’ve long since believed the nursing staff you have is the best in both DE and Maryland. She proved this without a shadow of a doubt. Because of her alone, I will never go to another hospital. The way she treated me and my significant other was nothing short of awe-worthy. As I can’t give more than thanks and gratitude because she deserves more than just kind words. She deserves recognition for how outstanding, warm, friendly, and professional she is. Unfortunately, as a patient, I cannot offer her that. I humbly ask that she be given this award.
Once again, I have never written something like this for any member of medical staff. I hope you see how important she was to make my stay tolerable if I’m willing to actually take the time to write this much for her to even be considered for a reward I’m not sure she will even get, but she should. She more than earned it and, at least to me, is an exemplary nurse. I only wish we had more nurses like her. She was warm, welcoming, friendly and professional.
