Going from the ER to being admitted to the operating room in less than 24 hours created much anxiety within me. One blessing was my doctor. He had done surgery on me before, so that gave me great confidence. Another blessing was my OR nurse. He was amazing.
This was the first time anything like this happened and my mom was not there with me for support. As Adriano asked me all the questions he needed to (with such a calming voice) it began to lessen my anxiety. When he was finished he asked if I had any questions for him. I just said, “I will need you to hold my hand as I go to sleep.” He said of course and rubbed my hand. Sure enough, when we got into the OR he took my hand. The anesthesiologist asked him for something and he had to let go. The mask was put on me and as soon as he handed her the item, he grabbed my hand again. Having a hand to hold allowed me to stay strong and not start crying with fear. Adriano is an asset to this hospital.
