Everything Nicole did, she did with a smile and in a caring manner, even when she was clearly stretched thin with other patients or near the end of her shifts.
Nicole went above and beyond in the care of my grandfather, ensuring he was comfortable, received medications, that he understood what was being relayed to him by his doctor, that he understood the purpose of the tests he was receiving, and that his daily personal grooming needs were attended to.
My grandfather is 90 years old, he’s had numerous recent hospital stays for various reasons which required many blood draws and IVs. His skin is very thin, and his veins are difficult to get for both blood draws and IVs. Nicole saw the bruising and an area where his skin had been torn from a blood draw. She took care to ensure the area was cleaned and dressed. She also noted that his IV, which had been in place for several days, had begun to leak. She took her time to gently remove the worn tape and reapply.
My grandfather also began having nose bleeds while hospitalized, while the CSAs and other RNs did assist when the nose bleeds occurred, Nicole took great care to ensure the blood was cleaned from his shirt, his chair and his bed which had been overlooked by others.
Nicole also made a point of knowing who each of the family members were and that they were kept informed of important information related to my grandfather's care. She made a point of being present when the doctor visited so she were aware of all information being provided. She took the time to further clarify some of the information which had been difficult to understand. She followed up with the doctor when there were delays.
Nicole also ensured my grandmother (who is also 90 years old, visually impaired, and hard of hearing) fully understood what was happening with my grandfather. She did so in a caring and friendly manner. She made certain my grandmother was comfortable and had drinks, etc., while she was there for long hours.
Everything Nicole did, she did with a smile and in a caring manner, even when she was clearly stretched thin with other patients or near the end of her shifts. All of this was very much appreciated by my grandfather and the rest of my family.
