During a very unique and different case here in our Labor & Delivery unit, our nurse, Sydney was an incredible support and went above and beyond in this rare situation. Most of our birth stories are beautiful and joyous events. This particular pregnancy was a result of an assault and unfortunately, the patient was developmentally delayed and mentally challenged. She also spoke only Spanish. To give you an example of her fear and apprehension, it took over an hour to get her into a hospital gown for admission. A cesarean section was scheduled to avoid labor. One can imagine that Sydney was faced with a difficult situation and managed her care with compassion, patience empathy, and immense professionalism.

I was the Charge Nurse on this day and could not have imagined a better fit. The outcome was a safe delivery thank goodness but emotional support was certainly provided 110%.
