Melissa wanted to alert the team not only about her concerns regarding the patient's unsteady gait and level of supervision needed, but to recommend the patient have a single room so the patient's dignity was respected during personal care all while ensuring safety.
Melissa is a FT nurse who prioritizes patient care and safety and continues to go beyond every day. She takes pride in patient care, prioritizes safety, and remains mindful of internal patient flow, and acuity needs in the ER and on the units patients are being admitted to. Melissa has a good rapport with the WSC ED staff and prioritizes patient flow from WSC ER and TCU for patients identified for transfer.

My first encounter with Melissa was while I was the coordinator for the Adult Inpatient Unit when she called upstairs to notify the team about a patient who was very psychiatrically decompensated and also had very complex medical needs, rendering her to be a 1:1. Melissa wanted to alert the team not only about her concerns regarding the patient's unsteady gait and level of supervision needed, but to recommend the patient have a single room so the patient's dignity was respected during personal care all while ensuring safety. Melissa is my extra pair of eyes when it comes to walkthroughs and JCHO season and goes above and beyond with assisting with coverage needs. She is a hard worker and dedicated to the field of psychiatric emergency nursing. For all these reasons, Melissa is a true DAISY Nurse.

Note: This is Melissa's 2nd DAISY Award!
