My father-in-law had a heart ablation procedure yesterday and Denyse was his nurse. When I say that this nurse went ABOVE AND BEYOND for her patient, I mean she really went above and beyond! We had several family members there waiting for my father-in-law before his procedure which was delayed 4 hours and she not only took care of his needs, but all of ours! She continually came to check in and give updates on the reason for the delay without us asking. My daughter and my nephew (both 3 years old) were present as well, and she took the time to walk them around the unit and give them crackers and coloring books/pencils to keep them busy and pass the time. Due to his delayed procedure, she was going to be done with her shift by the time the procedure finished, which meant he would have to go up to PCU to recover. She made sure that all the paperwork for discharge was ready before she left. Once my father-in-law was out of his procedure and ready to be discharged, a miscommunication resulted in him possibly having to stay the night in the PCU unexpectedly. We were able to get in touch with Denyse, who was already at home with her family, and this amazing nurse CAME BACK into the hospital to make sure my father-in-law could go home to finish recovering. I am blown away by her care, compassion, and willingness to give 110% to her patients. She embodies everything that an IU Health nurse should be, and we are so incredibly thankful for her!
