Allison has always been very personable, kind, passionate, and empathetic which I believe allows families to feel that their needs are being met.
I nominate Allison Massey for the DAISY Award for her continuous devotion, selflessness, and care for the families that we serve. Allison has continued to provide individualized and family-centered care for every patient and family we see. Allison has always been very personable, kind, passionate, and empathetic which I believe allows families to feel that their needs are being met.

I have worked with Allison for approximately a year. As a Child Life Specialist, it is under my scope to help children with coping needs and utilize pain management. For the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Clinic, patients are needed to come approximately 3 times a year and require several procedures that are often physically and emotionally exhausting. Examples include pulmonary function tests, sputum collection, testing of their knowledge, and often lab draws. A typical visit can last 2-3 hours. That said, Allison works hard to maintain a positive-coping environment, maintaining a safe space for families to receive care, and utilizing pain management wherever fit. In regards to patient coping, Allison places LMX, a topical numbing cream on each and every patient receiving a lab draw (unless otherwise specified), communicates with Child Life days prior to a patient's visit, and notifies the PICC team for patients that may need more assistance to minimize the amount of pokes received. She works with Child Life to promote a safe, normalizing environment as well as welcomes any comfort or coping measures recommended for each patient's medical experience.

Recently, Allison notified Child Life a week prior to a patient's arrival, allowing Child Life to communicate a plan with the family for their visit ahead of time. She met the patient, placed LMX, notified Child Life, and continued with the visit. Allison was in constant communication with Child Life throughout the visit, welcoming any accommodations that the child needed. Because of this, the patient was able to cope developmentally appropriately with the procedure and labs were taken successfully.

Allison wears many hats in the CF clinic. She adheres to staff needs, works on charting, scheduling, and discharging, and maintains the medical needs of all patients. She does an incredible job balancing many tasks and I am very grateful to have her on this team.
