They help calm my husband with their knowledge, compassion, and skill!!
My husband was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. We began aggressive chemo shortly after. We were home when his 5 FU infusion began causing severe vaso spasms. We rushed to the ER at CentraState. We first met Karen Aquino there as she was called down to disconnect my husband's infusion from his chest port. After a battery of tests and catheterizations, our oncologist and cardiologist decided D's best hope was to continue this treatment 3 more times as a direct Admit to the Telemetry Unit to have his heart monitored while chemo is administered for 3-4 days. We just completed chemo Round 3!! Karen and Megan have been true earth angels to my husband and me for chemo Rounds 2 and 3, and I know they will be there for Round 4 as well.
We are on the 5th floor NOT the chemo unit. These nurses must leave their department several times throughout the day to check on D. I know it takes a heart of gold to be a chemo nurse in the first place. However, to have these two women come up and down with all their supplies all day long with smiles, conversation, and compassion, we are just so grateful to have them helping us. They go the extra mile day in and day out. They help calm my husband with their knowledge, compassion, and skill!! It's not easy to do what Karen Aquino and Megan Lukens do every day and to watch them so professional out of their own department working so closely with the Telemetry unit to be sure my husband gets the best care is amazing to me. When I have to leave the hospital at night, I know the team of chemo nurses has got everything covered.
Thank you with all our hearts to Karen Aquino, Megan Lukens, and their chemo team! With much love and gratitude, (thank you too for taking such awesome care of their Dad!)
