She held his hand, talked and sang to him, and stroked his face. Our sweet boy knew he was not alone as he passed, thanks to Hailey.
Hailey is exceptional. She goes above and beyond for all of her patients and, makes everyone around her feel so loved and safe. She recently gave outstanding care to one of our chronic patients who came to us for end-of-life care. Though our unit is unfamiliar with this process, she stepped up and provided extraordinary care. She helped him to transition in the most beautiful way, acknowledging the immense honor of this event. Hailey made sure to administer medications to keep him comfortable and remained by his side through the end. She held his hand, talked and sang to him, and stroked his face. Our sweet boy knew he was not alone as he passed, thanks to Hailey. When the patient's mom arrived at the bedside after his passing, she then gave love to his mom and gave her comfort in knowing he got the best care until the last second. She then gifted the patient's mom letters our team had written about the patient, something tangible for her to remember her son's legacy.
I am proud to call Hailey my coworker and my friend. She has a pure heart and loves fiercely. She takes her patients into her care as if they are her own children, even calling them "her kids" instead of "patients." She is the first to help others out and always takes the time to go the extra mile. I am comforted by the thought of her being the last nurse to care for our patient - she was the last person to make him comfortable and the last person to make him feel loved. He felt safe and loved enough in her presence to transition to the end of his life. There is no one who could have provided the level of care she gave to him that day.
