Makayla was always so sweet, compassionate, understanding, caring, and went above all to make me and my autistic son feel relaxed and cared for. My son was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, hence our stay in the hospital. Makayla has been his primary daytime nurse since we arrived at the unit. No matter the questions, the teaching, the tears, the laughter, the confusion and so forth, she always had a smile and a loving presence. She was firm when needed but also made my son laugh.

This is a very hard pill to swallow for any parent, let alone a parent of a special needs child. She always made me feel my concerns and fears were allowed. I never felt questioned, judged, or rushed. She always made him feel great and taken care of. She never left without making sure I was good as well. She is a hero! Words spoken by my 11-year-old son - "She was an amazing nurse. She was kind and never made me feel different." Again, a hero!
