Comments regarding Christian Principles: Mrs. Hammonds not only teaches her students about nursing, but she cares about them in such a deep and individual way. She also is so encouraging and even points all her nursing teaching back to Christ. She is kind and shows Christ's unconditional love to all her students, no matter who they are. She is incredibly knowledgeable in nursing and is good at using stories to make points stick. She is actually fun to listen to in the classroom and is an engaging and understandable teacher. She also dedicates much time to university mission trips and getting to non-nursing students. She is overall a wonderful teacher, friend, and sister in Christ.

Comments regarding a Role Model: Mrs. Hammonds shows compassion for all her students, even those who do not share her faith. She tries to connect with students on a nursing and non-nursing level, which really shows a nature of love and caring. During one of our labs we were asked to wear a sports bra and shorts. I did not feel comfortable doing that, and she went out of her way to make sure I felt comfortable and was holding my boundaries. Her care for others radiates so brightly.

She has taught me that every patient is different and to always listen. I have also learned that it is okay to fail. She taught me to persevere through defeat and celebrate triumph when it is deserved.  I would not be where I am today without Mrs. Hammonds.

Comments regarding CRU Nursing Core Values: When I was struggling to get food because of the freeze and living in a dorm then, Mrs. Hammonds had another student and I over to her house, fed us, and gave us food for the next few days. When I was at my white coat this semester, she came up to me and told me how proud she was of me. It was just a sentence or two, but it was so encouraging. She shows honesty and integrity in her teaching and grading. Her ethics truly show her love of Christ, his word, and his people.

She not only shows the true values of the Nursing School, but also the way God calls us to live our lives. She truly shows the love of God to each and every student who walks into her classroom by demonstrating patience, kindness, she is not prideful, etc.

Comments regarding Why Thankful: While I was already sure I wanted to be a nurse before starting the program, Mrs. Hammonds lit a fire in me and made me much more passionate about nursing. She made nursing seem exciting and fun, and also realistic. She taught me that nursing is constantly changing and being added to and the importance of being a persistent learner. She showed me the good, bad, beautiful, and ugly parts of nursing, and yet increased my desire to become a nurse and care for people in the most vulnerable times. She emphasized caring for the whole patient, and not just their physiological needs. She also demonstrated the need for serving a community as a whole, while also individualizing care. When I graduate, I pray I am a nurse like Mrs. Hammonds.

She shows true love for the patient with her actions and words. She teaches compassion for not only the patient but also the fellow nurses. She has blessed me tremendously with the amount of knowledge that she knows from experience and I hope to be as good of a nurse as she is one day.
