When I walk into a shift or an emergency and Alexis is present, I can exhale a sigh of relief because she is the kind of teammate and nurse that we all like to work with.
Alexis received two very special nominations that speak volumes to the nurse that she is at the Boulder County Jail. One of the nominations was from a staff member and one was from a patient that Alexis took care of at the jail. Alexis has excellent assessment skills, knowledge, and calm in emergency settings. Below are the nominations that were submitted for Alexis:
Alexis has made a difference in the care we provide not only once, but every single day. Alexis is incredibly thorough, intelligent, and diligent, and is an advocate for patients and nurses alike. I have lost count of the number of times that she has detected worsening conditions in patients and immediately followed through with getting them the care that they need. She does this even if it implies standing her ground and going against the current. She has also been an amazing resource during emergencies by either administering life-saving medication or supporting the nurses directly involved in the emergency. I know for a fact that Alexis has saved lives.
In her free time, she is always seeking opportunities to improve the unit by printing the forms that we need, organizing, troubleshooting equipment and the list goes on. This all contributes to improvement in patient care even in indirect ways. When I walk into a shift or an emergency and Alexis is present, I can exhale a sigh of relief because she is the kind of teammate and nurse that we all like to work with. Our patients are blessed to have someone like her caring for them.

A week or two after arriving at the BCJ I developed an infection on my foot and between my toes. I called medical and was seen by medical and given antibiotics ointment and band-aids. The infection later got worse, and I called medical; again I was put on wound care and pain medication. During one of my visits to wound care, Nurse Alexis asked me about my toes and if the infection got worse. Alexis noticed that the infection was worse and placed me on antibiotics. After I was placed on antibiotics for 7 days eventually my foot got better. I was thankful for Alexis because she made an informed and executive decision to put me on antibiotics, one to heal the infection but also to prevent more serious infections or blood diseases (AKA sepsis). Thank you, Alexis.
