I work in adult ICU and was caring for a young adult who had attempted suicide. As you can imagine, the family was absolutely devastated. The patient's mother said that she would really like to have a plaster made of her son's hands. I called over to NICU and talked to the charge nurse and she explained that the RN who normally helps with this wouldn't be at work for several days. I then got a call from Shelbi. She asked a few questions about the situation and said that she had called the RN who normally does them and got the rundown and that she would be willing to come over and give it a try. She came over with all the supplies and introduced herself to the patient's mother. Shelbi was so sweet to her and was able to connect with her right way. She made molds of mom and son holding hands and brought one back not long after she got it done. It was perfect. She didn't have to come to the adult ICU and help. She went above and beyond to make this beautiful gift for my patient's family to have and remember him by. What she created was very beautiful and meaningful. The family was so appreciative and thankful for what she helped them create- and so was I! Thank you, Shelbi!!!
