Mandy prayed and cried with us. We felt her emotions were genuine. When our family was about to leave the hospital, Mandy came to us and hugged us.
My 65 year-old sister came to St. Francis with complications of end stage liver failure. She was diagnosed with sepsis, pneumonia, and a UTI. Also, her oxygen level was very low. It was decided to intubate her to help her lungs heal. Mandy began taking care of my sister about six days after admission. The other nurses were good and showed great concern for my sister's condition, but when Mandy came in, it was evident that she not only had a deep care and heartfelt concern for my sister's overall well-being, but for us as well. Mandy took the time to compassionately explain my sister's current condition, what had been done with her care, and what would be happening going forward. Mandy was very personable and friendly and treated my sister as if she were her own family member. During our difficult decision of life ending procedures, Mandy was right there for us, asking if we needed anything, or if she could do anything for us. She honestly was our friend in a time of need. I felt Mandy went above what was expected and did her utmost best for my sister. Mandy prayed and cried with us. We felt her emotions were genuine. When our family was about to leave the hospital, Mandy came to us and hugged us. She told us she was very sorry for our loss and that we would be in her thoughts and prayers. Our family felt that Mandy became an extended part of our family in those three short days. My only regret when leaving was knowing we would probably never see her again.
