Jillian sat at my father's bedside after we left, held his hand, and told him she had all the time in the world to address what was worrying him.
Many fantastic nurses work at both Belleville and Shiloh Memorial. I want to bring special recognition to a 2 North East nurse who recently helped care for my father. My father has not needed many hospital stays in the past, but when my father's monitor showed his heart rate becoming extremely bradycardic, he was told to go to the emergency room. Of course, that was a very jarring phone call to receive, and he became very anxious and nervous. My father was told he needed a pacemaker and he would need to have it as soon as possible. My mother and I needed to go home and rest for the evening, and Jillian noticed his distress to the point of tears (I have only seen my dad cry twice in my life, so that should tell you something). My father recently (2 weeks prior) lost his sister unexpectedly, and now he is having surgery for a slow heart rate, low blood pressure, and oxygenation issues. Jillian sat at my father's bedside after we left, held his hand, and told him she had all the time in the world to address what was worrying him. As a nurse myself, that is never the case, but this was a phenomenal approach to gaining rapport with someone. Still, he was very touched and comforted that she was willing to address his anxiety and contact providers about a possible solution to ease his stress. I checked on my father later that evening, and she had everything in motion to provide the support and care needed to alleviate his anxiety. My father used words to describe this nurse as wonderful, compassionate, tremendous, and caring.
I am a manager at Shiloh, and this was so touching. I cannot express how fantastic the entire staff was to help keep us informed and aware of his treatment plan. Sometimes, life-saving endeavors do not supersede a personal connection and personable care with patients. Well done!
